Bridesmaids dresses for Abigail Barrow

Abigail, one of my best friends, enlisted my help with her bridesmaid dresses. This was at the very beginning of my dressmaking career, before university. The two children's dresses were made by Abigail's mum. I am in this picture, on the far left.

Abigail had six bridesmaids, all wearing bodice and skirts made from navy shot taffeta. There were different bodice shapes to suit the different ages and figures. The two girls on the left have fitted, boned bodices with pointed waistlines, square necklines and inch wide integral straps. The middle two girls have matching square necklines and straps but on a semi-fitted softer bodice shape. All the adult's bodices were laced up with ribbon at the back.

The child and teen (centre and far right) also have semi-fitted bodices but with a wide boat-neckline and a zip at the back. The children had long skirts in a narrow a-line shape while the older bridesmaids had fuller a-line skirts cut in panels to create movement.
